Ridge Track, Georges River National Park

The Ridge Track in Georges River National Park is a pleasant short walk, easily accessible from Sydney’s south-west. The angophora dominated forest is attractive, as are views of the Georges River along the way.

You never feel too far from civilisation so its not a wilderness experience by any means, but a pleasant leg stretcher. The national park is mainly used for fishing and water sports, so the trails are pretty free. I don’t think we saw anybody on the Ridge Track when we did it. Mind you, the mozzies were out in force on a humid day so this may have kept people away. We didn’t know until we were already underway and so gotten bitten multiple times wearing shorts and t-shirts.

The route as marked might take you 1-1.5 hours roughly. Track notes at the end, and more info on the NPWS website.

Lots of the trees had these bulging, spreading trunks/roots. I think they were extending over rocks to get nutrients.

There were quite a few pockets of grass trees.

Track Notes

Ridge Track, Georges River National Park
We started at the eastern end. On a fairly obvious track, and on the road if you return via the river as we did.

You can park along Burrawang Reach Road and climb up onto the ridge on a couple of possible tracks. Head west stopping at a vantage points for views. You can drop down to the Henry Lawson Drive and shore at Fitzpatrick Park, however there is a fair bit of rubbish along the shore left behind by fisherman. I’d just get your views and turnaround.

We quite liked returning on the road along the river. That turnoff is signposted.
