Ikara Head Track, Blue Mountains NSW

A straightforward walk to Ikara Head in the Blue Mountains, with excellent views of the Grose Valley, and nice wildflowers in season.

Ikara Head Track, Blue Mountains

The walk to Ikara Head is a lesser known track in the Blue Mountains near Mt Victoria, with excellent views of the Grose Valley from the turnaround point, and open views for much of the way. There were also nice wildflowers when we walked in early summer.

The walk out and back is a straightforward walk, and fairly easygoing the whole way. For a bit more variety and excellent views from two viewpoints, but for more effort, try nearby Thor Head and Asgard Swamp .

Track notes at the end.

A native cockroach. Much less disgusting than the urban types we get, at least when viewed from above. It looks like an armoured tank.

Track Notes

Ikara Head Track, Blue Mountains
The start of this walk is not signposted and not at all obvious from the side of the road. But once you are on the track it’s straightforward pretty much the whole way, with just short sections of rocky ground to navigate over.

Walking to Ikara Head is pretty simple the whole way. Note though that the start of the walk is not signposted and not at all obvious. You can just make out the track on Google Maps however, and I’ve marked the start below. (It’s not the Ikara Head Trail).
