Bukhansan National Park
Layers of mountains all through Seoul/ Gyeongido.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
The first of the autumn colours.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Cuteness overload!
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Big Buddha and lamp at Shineunsa temple.
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
Gyeyangsan, Incheon, South Korea
Descending. We did a circuit.
Namhansanseong Fortress 남한산성 Circuit, Gyeonggi-do
The big pano of the day, showing a fair portion Seoul after sunset.
Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산
Great lighting, despite shooting right into the sun.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Taken from the summit: I thought this would be the money shot, but I was wrong about that. There was more spectacular scenery to come down in amongst those rocky slopes.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
That top of the world feeling at this spot. The colours ran out about 1100m to1200m of elevation.
Gwanaksan 관악산 Traverse, Seoul
The lower reaches of the stream I followed.
Our return route was down the Oryudong Valley, pictured.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Shineunsa temple
Bukhansan National Park
Mangwolsa Temple was built in the 600s, but entirely destroyed in the Korea war, then subsequently rebuilt.
Jebibong Peak 제비봉, Woraksan 월악산 National Park
Another panorama of Chungjuho 충주호 Lake, this time in the afternoon as we descended.
Bukhansan National Park
Views from the summit. I climbed the peak in the distance (left) - Baegundae 백운대, the park's highest - last year when we visited.
Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산
This shot reminded me a little of the hinterland of northern NSW & southern Queensland, (just from photos). There's probably only a vague similarity.
Songaksan Circuit, Jeju-do South Korea
The start and end of the walk.
Bukhansan National Park
Panorama from the summit.
The tallest peaks in the park, including Baegundae (836m), and the valley we returned down.
Bukhansan National Park
The undulating ridge.
Namhansanseong Fortress 남한산성 Circuit, Gyeonggi-do
Seoul and the Lotte World Tower rather prominent (at 555m the top is higher than we were!)
Yeongmori Coast Walk & Sanbang-sa Temple, Jeju-do
Sanbangsan from the coast.
The only landscape vistas of the day from a viewpoint on the way to Geumganggul Grotto. The grotto was not much to look at, (although the location is part way up a sheer cliff and boggles the mind), but if we hadn't decided to visit we wouldn't have got any views because it cleared just as we were heading back to the main track past a viewpoint.
A close up of mountains across the valley from that viewpoint maybe 1.5 hours into the walk.
(I took a lot of photos quite hurriedly, and this one, like a few others, was not entirely in focus. I touched it up using some software I bought.)
Perhaps my favourite vista from the summit of Baegundae (836m). Looking south-west I think. In the morning we climbed the prominent ridge from right to left.
Songaksan Circuit, Jeju-do South Korea
Hallasan on the right, and the bulgy Sanbangsan roughly centre.
I particularly liked these bright orange trees.
Gwanaksan 관악산 Traverse, Seoul
Yeonjudae Temple
Jebibong Peak 제비봉, Woraksan 월악산 National Park
A big panorama of Chungjuho 충주호 Lake on the way up.
Gwanaksan 관악산 Traverse, Seoul
I liked the golden coloured rocks in the foreground of this cityscape.
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
Proper views as we ascended above the tree line. (Nevertheless, I read a sign that said trees had once grown in this area so thickly they blocked out the light, until they were illegally cut down and the area burnt.)
Namhansanseong Fortress 남한산성 Circuit, Gyeonggi-do
A temple along the way (a minute off track).
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
At about 1400m of elevation. The forecast was for rain but that didn't happen until the very end of the walk.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
A carpet of bamboo
A panorama east, including Insubong on the left.
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
There were rocky stream beds.
Jebibong Peak 제비봉, Woraksan 월악산 National Park
Back down the mountain and across the road to one of two wharfs for site seeing boats.
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
Paths paved in stone.
Yeongmori Coast Walk & Sanbang-sa Temple, Jeju-do
Sanbangsan (a big lump of lava with 395m of elevation), and the Sanbangsa temple below.
Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산
A slightly wider angle on this shot.
A big panorama taking in the ridge and some cityscapes in the distance.
Yeongmori Coast Walk & Sanbang-sa Temple, Jeju-do
A palm tree and a harubang means this can only be Jeju Island. Sanbangsa Temple.
Views roughly north.
Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산
A panorama from Ageobong Crocodile Peak. Lucky with the light I think. There were a couple of photographers set up at this spot, waiting for sunset. The name comes from the appearance of the various peninsula, which look like crocodiles in the water. I can see that.
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
A few small waterfalls.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
The crater lake on the summit at 1950m of elevation. I've seen pictures where this was a lot fuller.
Bukhansan National Park
Rock formations on the summit.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
About 1400m of elevation.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
Misty forest on the way down.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
Near the top.
Namhansanseong Fortress 남한산성 Circuit, Gyeonggi-do
We followed the winding wall up to that ridge at the back, which is where we waited for sunset (at the West Gate).
Cheonwangbong from Baekmudong, Jirisan
Nice contrast here, looking north from the summit.
Gwanaksan 관악산 Traverse, Seoul
A wide panorama of Seoul.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
The track was constructed for most of the way up.
We didn't have to wait long for the colours to start.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Yeongmori Coast Walk & Sanbang-sa Temple, Jeju-do
The sun going down at Sanbangsa Temple.
Gyeyangsan, Incheon, South Korea
A resting place towards the bottom.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
These two guys were pretty cool. At Shineunsa temple gate.
Daecheongbong ascent, Seoraksan NP
Such spectacular scenery on this walk, only it was very hard to capture the scale of these towering cliffs in a photo.
You have to climb up and over a few peaks. Lots of viewpoints therefore.
Jebibong Peak 제비봉, Woraksan 월악산 National Park
Me at a good photography spot.
Gyeyangsan, Incheon, South Korea
Looking north-west-ish from the summit.
Autumn colours were a highlight, all the more so because we couldn't see much else for half the walk.
Gwaneumsa Track, Hallasan, Jeju-do
Cliffs with just a few trees showing autumn colours.
