Around Sydney in Landscape (excl RNP & Blue Mtns)

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
This was the day's money shot. A panorama of the view from near Long Point. You need a head for heights to get this photo.

Mt Kuring-gai to Berowra, Sydney
Sophia standing amongst salt marsh. There's a steep climb up the hill behind
her.

Cowan to Brooklyn, Ku-ring-gai Chase NP
The Hawkesbury River. From a viewpoint just 20m to the left off-track across some rocks.

Cowan to Brooklyn, Ku-ring-gai Chase NPCowan to Brooklyn, Ku-ring-gai Chase NP
A rock overhang. There was graffiti on it in places which was a shame.

Mermaids Pool & Tahmoor Canyon, Southern Highlands NSW
Mermaids Pool again, this time on our way back in cloudier weather.

Mermaids Pool & Tahmoor Canyon, Southern Highlands NSW
I particularly liked this section of the canyon, with the small stand of rainforest plants in an otherwise dry landscape.

Bundanoon Gorge Lookouts, Southern Highlands NSW
Indigo Creek ahead, and Stonequarry Creek out of sight to the right.

Green & White Tracks, Bungonia National Park
Mass Cave, where they apparently used to hold Catholic Mass.

Mt Jellore Summit, Nattai National Park
Views from the edge of the mountain, a little past the summit.

Starlights Trail, Nattai National Park
Cliffs lining the Nattai River Valley in the second half of the walk.

T3 Track to Colo River & Tootie Creek
Perhaps the best views of the day - the Colo River and Mt Townsend (465m).

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
The trees appeared to be somewhat burned on top of this hill; they were at least rather red. The dying sun was adding to the effect.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
McCallums Flat. It was very pleasant walking.

Bungonia Gorge Red Track, Bungonia National Park
A pool amongst the boulders. This was the only area I had notes for - they directed us right and we eventually found our way out, but not before I slipped and fell on a tree trunk, but somehow managed not to fall off it.

Bungonia Gorge Red Track, Bungonia National Park
A bit dark and foreboding. It was a very cool walk but I was glad to be out.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
There were lots of these orange mushrooms out. I took a few shots.

Mermaids Pool & Tahmoor Canyon, Southern Highlands NSW
Mermaids Pool. You know a scene is nice when Sophia (on the right) can be bothered to take a picture.

Green & White Tracks, Bungonia National Park
A panorama of the view from Adams Lookout. Bungonia Slot Canyon centre.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
Brush Turkeys (not related to turkeys) are famous for digging up people's gardens. This one was kicking dirt at us for a while, quite unconcerned with our presence. They were in the car park too. Nice looking creature.

Bungonia Gorge Red Track, Bungonia National Park
Somebody explained that the roots probably grew around the rocks when the soil level was higher, then perhaps due to flood erosion the roots and rocks have been exposed above ground.

Mt Kuring-gai to Berowra, Sydney
There were some wildflowers out on the higher and dryer sections of the walk near the start. Pictured is some kind of Styphelia (Five Corners).

Yellow Track, Bungonia National Park
Bee hive! I walked under this three times without realising they were there, and may have even bumped my head on one. Sophia was the first to notice.

Baldy Billy Peak & the Wollondilly River, Guula Ngulla National Park.
Views from Baldy Billy Peak. The Wollondilly River Down there, where I walked next.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
Kingpin Mountain on the right. This felt quite adventurous as the ridge was narrow and there was a tricky scramble to get up Long Point Intermediate. I had no idea whether there was a way forward actually, but I would have been able to retrace my steps and finish late if I'd had to.

Green & White Tracks, Bungonia National Park
The view down towards the exit/entrance of Bungonia Slot Canyon (bottom centre right). The limestone quarry top right.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
Very milky water in this section, although not on the second occasion we did the walk.

Bonnum Pic Route, Nattai National Park
You don't get clear views of these cliffs until near the turnaround point.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
The Shoalhaven River near its confluence with Barbers Creek.

Bonnum Pic Route, Nattai National Park
Early morning cow. The route skirts the egde of private land for a while, then enters it before emerging int he national park.

Mermaids Pool & Tahmoor Canyon, Southern Highlands NSW
Mermaids Pool yet again. It was very picturesque.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
The sun going down over Bobbin Head Marina, at the end of our walk.

Yellow Track, Bungonia National Park
Knockout views of Bungonia Slot Canyon and Frome Hill from Adams Lookout, accessed on the Green Track (or you can drive there).

Oatley Park Circuit, Oatley, Sydney
The Georges River viewed from a spot about 200m from the entrance at Douglas Haig Street.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
A Waratah, the NSW state flower, at the start of the Sphinx Track,

T3 Track to Colo River & Tootie Creek
More of those views near the start (except these taken on my way back in the arvo).

Kangaroo Ridge Trail, Barren Grounds Nature Reserve
The walk's turnaround point was at the edge of the escarpment.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
The Shoalhaven River curves around unnamed peaks.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
Lots of expensive boats. Sophia was salivating over them.

Gibberagong Sphinx Warrimoo Tracks, Ku-rin-gai Chase NP, Sydney
Near the confluence of Cockle Creek and Cowan Creek.

Long Point to the Shoalhaven River, Morton National Park
The route descends to the right behind Kingpin Mountain and Long Point Intermediate. I climbed those peaks on my way back. McCallums Flat and the section of Shoalhaven River you visit are to the left.

Russells Needle Route, Nattai National Park
Rocky Waterholes Creek. It was much wider in parts, and rocky.

Green & White Tracks, Bungonia National Park
Bungonia Slot Canyon. Next time I'll aim to walk through it.

Mt Jellore Summit, Nattai National Park
This was my favourite scene of the walk, as the track drops down to Jellore Creek (which was dry when I visited).
