Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산, South Korea

A short but steep hike to exceptional views of Chungju-ho Lake from Ageobong / Crocodile Peak (442m). Take your camera.

My brother in law recommended this short but steep walk to Ageobong / Crocodile Peak for on our drive back from a day out in Woraksan National Park. It was totally worth the hour or so walking (return) for the spectacular views of Chungju-ho (Lake), and the various peninsulas that jut out, looking like crocodiles in the water and giving the peak its name.

Track notes at the end.

I got this view on the way up. I think it’s the main peak in Woraksan, Yeongbong Peak (1097m). There are slightly higher peaks in the park but there are a few tracks to the summit of this interestingly shaped peak. I don’t think the others are tracked.

Great lighting, despite shooting right into the sun.

This shot reminded me a little of the hinterland of northern NSW & southern Queensland, (just from photos). There’s probably only a vague similarity.

A slightly wider angle on this shot.

A panorama from Ageobong Crocodile Peak. Lucky with the light I think. There were a couple of photographers set up at this spot, waiting for sunset. The name comes from the appearance of the various peninsula, which look like crocodiles in the water. I can see that.

This view was down at the Lazy Crocodile / Lazy Caiman Cafe.

Track Notes

Ageobong 악어봉 / Crocodile Peak, Woraksan 월악산
The official track is still being constructed, due to open September 2023. It starts opposite the Lazy Caiman / Lazy Crocodile Cafe. Short but steep.

In May 2023 the short but steep track to this viewpoint was still unofficial, but they were building stairs and forming the track, and this official trail is due to open in September 2023.

It starts opposite the Lazy Caiman / Crocodile Cafe and might take around an hour or so for the return trip. I’ve rated it easy because it’s short, but it will test the unfit because it’s quite steep. So not that easy.
